ABOUT

IMG_1672.jpeg

Madeleine Stewart is a fiddle player whose music is rooted in the eclectic traditions of New England. She moved to Glasgow from New Hampshire in 2014 and earned a BMus (Hons) in Traditional Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

In 2023, she was a finalist in the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition, and she has played at festivals on both sides of the Atlantic including Celtic Connections, Celtic Colours and Boston Celtic Music Festival.

Currently, she plays with the Routes Quartet, folk-fusion band Eriska, and Rory Matheson and Craig Baxter in the Madeleine Stewart Trio. Routes is a string quartet that plays traditional music and original compositions; in contrast, Eriska explores the wide ranges of influences and musical tendencies of each of its individual members, while the trio is grounded by Madeleine’s own tunes and style.

Madeleine is also involved in running and teaching for The Folks’ Music Project, a CIC providing affordable community workshops and events in the Glasgow area.
